Anthropologist and filmmaker Joanne Randa Nucho visits Aarhus

Nucho will talk about sectarianism in Lebanon and show and discuss her film "The Narrow Streets of Bourj Hammoud."

Nucho is a postdoctoral fellow at Pomona College, California. In 2016, she published her monograph 'Everyday Sectarianism in Urban Lebanon', based on fieldwork in the Armenian Bourj Hammoud neighborhood in Beirut. As a filmmaker, she did the ethnographic film documentary "The Narrow Streets of Bourj Hammoud". 

The meeting is part of the research project Sectarianism in the Wake of the Arab Revolts (SWAR). ICSRU members are most welcome to join the presentation and workshops, in full or in part.

Monday November 6 (Morning session: 1481-341 / Afternoon session: Political Science Meeting Room)

  • 10.15-12 Public presentation for staff and students: Joanne Randa Nucho on Everyday Sectarianism in Urban Lebanon.
  • 13-16: Informal workshop within the SWAR research group: Morten Valbjørn on the SWAR project and Thomas Fibiger on Everyday Sectarianism in Kuwait and Bahrain, followed by general discussion.

Tuesday November 7 (Moesgaard Museum, Visual Anthropology Lab)

  • 13.15-15.00: Visual Anthropology session : Joanne Randa Nucho will show and discuss bits of her film 'The Narrow Streets of Bourj Hammoud' with staff and students.
