New PhD project on De-Sectarianization in Post-2019 Lebanon
Katrine Baunkjær has started a PhD on "Everyday Practices and Civic Engagement as Acts of De-Sectarianization: Ordinary People as Change-Makers in Post-2019 Lebanon."
The project focuses on how ordinary Lebanese navigate and contest sectarian divides in contemporary Lebanon through everyday practices and community-based initiatives. It studies the emergence of non- and anti-sectarian identities and solidarities in cultural, welfare, and informal educational settings, highlighting how local actors create spaces that challenge existing structures. The project contributes to current debates on (de-)sectarianization by demonstrating the role of grassroots initiatives as key sites for social and political change in divided societies.
Katrine Baunkjær is based in the Department of Political Science.
