The politicization of contemporary Arab​ art

Anastasia Shanaah​ starts a new PhD project

Anastasia​'s researches the ways Arab contemporary art is displayed and perceived both in the Arab region and outside it. Her PhD project focuses on politicization of contemporary Arab art displays, intentionally (on the production side, e.g., by the curator) and unintentionally (on the reception side, e.g., by the audience).

Anastasia's interest in modern and contemporary Middle Eastern art stems from her prior education. She has a BA in the History of the Arab Countries from the Institute of Asian and African Countries, Moscow State University, and an MA in History of Art from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Anastasia is based in the Department of Art History in the School of Communication and Culture.
