Christian Suhr joins schools team
The anthropologist Christian Suhr, who works on Islam in Denmark, has been appointed to the team working on the project on Islam and Muslims in Danish public schools.
Suhr is completing a PhD on "Descending with Angels: Psychiatry, Exorcism, and Islam in Denmark," and will move straight from that onto the ICSRU project on "Islam and Muslims in Danish public schools." He will be looking at the experiences of Danish schooling of young Muslims in the Aarhus revivalist milieu. In particular he will explore how these young people understand and sometimes seek to protect and purify themselves from the influences of secular education. Suhr, who works also on the use of film and visual anthropology, will add a short film to the project's outcomes.
