Based on filmic examples from the film “Light upon light” (Hassala Films 2022) and a recent pilot study conducted in Denmark, Christian Suhr will present preliminary ideas for a forthcoming project on the experience and cultivation of love in Egypt. The project will contribute to the larger framework of Heart Openings that explores the experience and cultivation of love in collaboration with Buddhists, Christians, and Muslims in Denmark, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, US, UK, and Egypt. Using audiovisual and microphenomenological methods, the project seeks to examine the sensory and emotional structures of concrete experiences of love and, through participant observation and life history interviews, to examine how the cultivation and experiences of love impact and emerge from people’s everyday lives across these different contemplative and religious traditions.
