The workshop will be centered around Professsor Schwedler’s recent book, Protesting Jordan: Geographies of Power and Dissent (Stanford University Press), which was voted a National Endowment for Democracy Notable Book of 2022, and looks at small and large protests in Jordan from before the establishment of the kingdom till today. Jeroen Gunning (KCL) and Dima Smaira (AUB/LAU) will subsequently compare insights from Jordan with experiences from Lebanon, Palestine, and Egypt.
