Dina will present on her way of staying with the trouble (Haraway 2016) or breaking down ‘knows’ into ‘unknows’ (Barreiros and Moreira 2020) by centring and scrutinising the details of ethical research, viewing it from perspectives of ethics in theory and ethics in practice.

The presentation will cover her ongoing Master's thesis which discusses ethics within Islamic and religious studies and beyond. The basis of the presentation consists of the internal and external conditions of the ongoing PhD project, on queer Muslims’ experiences of understanding, being and feeling Islam and religiosity from a community and temporal perspective. Through presentation of conditions which have shaped the project as well as excerpts from conducted interviews, she will evaluate to what extend the methods used drive and/or hinder her interaction with interlocutors as researcher and peer. With a focus on research ethics and de- and postcolonial thought she will discuss how theoretical and institutional developments have had both constructive and destructive effects on results and research process. The presentation aims to have an overall constructive and reparative effect through reflexive self-evaluation as a chance of intervention and potential modification.
